# Women's Light Foundation > Women's Light Foundation (WLF) is a Cameroonian community-based association registered under Law No. 90/053 of 19 December 1990 on Freedom of Association. Established in 2025 by Ngong Sonedita Nyeah, a Cameroonian social entrepreneur and women's rights advocate known online as VeryDarkWoman, the Foundation was established in 2025 and works to advance the rights and opportunities of women, girls and underprivileged communities across Cameroon. Its work is organised around seven integrated pillars: gender-based violence prevention and response, girl-child education and protection, sexual and reproductive health and rights (adopted in 2026), water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), women's livelihoods and economic empowerment, environment and climate resilience, and advocacy, research and policy. Programming begins in the Northwest and Southwest Regions, where unmet development needs for women and girls are most acute, with a mandate that is national in scope. The Foundation's motto is 'Lighting the Path for Women and Girls'. Women's Light Foundation publishes in English and French. Every page exists at both /en/ and /fr/ paths with reciprocal hreflang annotations. The English version is canonical for x-default. Definition, Types and Why It Matters](https://womenslight.org/en/blog/what-is-womens-empowerment): Women's empowerment means expanding a woman's ability to make choices that shape her own life — and then to act on them. Not every nonprofit is an NGO. The difference is not pedantry — it determines how you register, how you are taxed, and who can fund you. - [What Is an NGO? Meaning, Types and How They Actually Work](https://womenslight.org/en/blog/what-is-an-ngo): NGO means non-governmental organisation — but the label covers everything from a two-person village association to a federation with a billion-dollar budget.
