Students in a learning environment

NGO Internships in Cameroon

Structured placements for students and recent graduates across all seven programme areas, with a named supervisor, a safeguarding briefing and a reference on completion.

Current internship openings

No internships are formally advertised at this moment, but we take interns throughout the year as supervision capacity allows.

We accept interns continuously rather than in fixed intake windows, limited only by how many people we can supervise properly at once. Write to us with what you are studying, what you want to learn, and how many days a week you can commit — placements are agreed individually.

Where interns work

Placements sit inside a real programme rather than in a separate scheme, so the work is genuine.

01

Programme support

Supporting field activities: community mobilisation, session preparation, attendance records and activity reporting across any of the seven pillars.

02

Monitoring and evaluation

Data collection for needs assessments, entry and cleaning, and support to quarterly programme review. Strong fit for statistics, economics and social science students.

03

Communications

Photography, short-form video, social media, story-gathering and translation between English and French.

04

Finance and administration

Bookkeeping support, receipt management and procurement documentation. Direct fit for accounting students.

05

Research and advocacy

Desk research, literature review, policy brief drafting and support to community dialogues. Suits law, development and public health students.

06

Grants and partnerships

Donor research, proposal drafting support and partner mapping. Genuinely useful work with a steep learning curve.

What to expect

How placements work

What we provide

  • A written placement agreement setting out role, hours, duration and learning objectives.
  • A named supervisor who is responsible for your work and available to you.
  • A safeguarding, PSEA and code of conduct briefing before you meet any community.
  • Reimbursement of transport and field costs incurred on the Foundation's behalf.
  • A reference letter or certificate on completion.
  • Work that contributes to a live programme, not filing.

What we ask

  • Three months minimum. Shorter placements cost more in supervision than they return, for both sides.
  • Reliability — communities plan around attendance.
  • Confidentiality about anything you learn concerning a programme participant.
  • Willingness to say when a task is beyond your current capability.

Boundaries

Interns are not placed alone with children or with survivors of violence. Responsibility is extended as capability is demonstrated. This protects the people we serve, and it also protects interns from being put in situations they are not equipped to handle.

Academic requirements

If your institution requires a placement agreement, supervisor evaluation or attendance record, tell us at the outset and we will complete whatever documentation your university needs.

A warning about recruitment fraud

Women's Light Foundation never charges anyone to apply for a role, to be interviewed, to volunteer or to intern, and never requests payment to a personal account. Any such request made in our name is fraudulent. Please report it to contact@womenslight.org so we can act on it.

Frequently asked questions

Are internships paid?

Internships are unpaid, but we reimburse transport and field costs incurred on the Foundation's behalf so that a placement does not cost you money to attend. We never charge a placement fee.

How long should an internship last?

Three months minimum, and three to six months is the usual range. Below three months the supervision investment exceeds what either side gains, and there is not enough time to build a reference worth citing.

Can my university placement requirements be met?

Yes. Tell us at the outset what your institution requires — placement agreement, supervisor evaluation, attendance records, a final report — and we will complete it. Several of our team have been through the same process.

Can I intern remotely?

Some functions can be: research, proposal drafting, translation, data analysis and design. Programme placements require presence in the communities we serve.
