Northwest Region
Our second base, in Bamenda. The Northwest Region faces development challenges for women and girls that closely mirror the Southwest, and our full programme operates there.

Regional context
Why we work here
The Northwest Region faces a development picture closely comparable to the Southwest: high poverty, limited access to social services, large displaced and host populations, many single-headed households and significant numbers of out-of-school girls.
Rural communities across the region are frequently distant from water points, health facilities and secondary schools. That distance is not a minor inconvenience — it determines whether a girl completes her education, whether a survivor of violence can reach medical care, and how many hours a day a woman spends collecting water rather than earning.
What this means in practice
- Rural water points that have fallen out of use for want of maintenance rather than because the source failed.
- Women farming land they do not own, without access to credit, storage or markets.
- Girls walking long and sometimes unsafe distances to reach a school.
- Communities where the nearest formal support service is hours away.
