1 Our commitment
Women's Light Foundation names persons with disabilities as a priority group in its core values. A website that excludes them would contradict that directly. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
2 What we have done
- Semantic HTML structure with a single main heading per page and a logical heading order.
- A skip link to bypass navigation and reach the main content directly.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, for keyboard and switch users.
- Text alternatives for images that convey meaning, and empty alt attributes for decorative ones.
- Colour contrast tested against WCAG AA thresholds for body text and interface elements.
- Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Full keyboard operability, including the navigation menus and accordions.
- Respect for the reduce-motion system preference, which disables the homepage carousel animation.
- Text that reflows without loss of content when enlarged, and no horizontal scrolling at narrow widths.
- Language attributes set correctly on each page so screen readers pronounce English and French properly.
3 Known limitations
We report these openly rather than claiming full conformance.
- Some photographs sourced from community activities have brief alternative text that may not convey full context.
- Embedded third-party video players are not under our direct control and may not meet the same standard.
- Documents published as PDF may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We will supply an accessible alternative on request.
- French translation of some pages is in progress; until complete, those pages display English content within a French-language page.
4 Getting an alternative format
If you need information from this site in another format — large print, plain text, or read aloud — contact us and we will provide it. There is no charge, and you do not need to explain why you need it.
5 Reporting a barrier
If you encounter a barrier, email contact@womenslight.org describing the page and the difficulty. We aim to respond within five working days and to correct genuine accessibility faults as a priority rather than scheduling them alongside routine work.
